From Data to Deck: Automating PowerPoint Creation
A practical, structure-first method for turning business data into consistent PowerPoint decks using templates, slide types, and automated layout rules.
Turn structured data into an editable PowerPoint file
Asking a language model to emit python-pptx or PptxGenJS usually produces a script you then run and visually QA. OfficeMaker does the opposite: it validates a structured payload against the live PowerPoint schema and returns a native .pptx file you can keep editing.
This article is about that data-to-deck path — not generic animation or transition tutorials.
Why “data to deck” is harder than a one-off prompt
A recurring board pack, sales review or operating report has to:
OfficeMaker is built for that pattern. Create → PowerPoint, or an automation, or MCP after `get_schema`, produces a .pptx. Organisation Slide Masters and templates are strongest when you reuse a saved automation rather than a fresh prompt every time.
A practical structure-first method
For large source workbooks, filter rows first with the Excel query path, then pass only the reduced extract into the deck. See Query Excel before the LLM.
What OfficeMaker will and will not do
OfficeMaker generates native PowerPoint (.pptx) with layouts from the document-generation workflow. It does not claim a laboratory benchmark against handwritten PptxGenJS. A dated workflow comparison is on /compare/officemaker-vs-pptxgenjs. Merge and edit of an existing deck are paid document-service verbs and are not on the public free MCP server.
